Microscope Objective Repair
Send your microscope objectives in for repair.
Microscope objectives repairs (achromats) are $45 (regardless of magnification); $20 for each lens element or case repair for the objective. Often a lens element repair is not needed. Microscope lens element repair example: The hemispheric lens of the L1 element in a Nikon 100x achromat 160mm tube length 45mm focal tube length oil immersion objective is pushed out of it's mount (cemented mount). An example of a case repair is a frozen telescoping lens element case for a 40x or 100x.
Microscope objective repairs (plan achromats) are $70 to $250 (regardless of magnification); $20 for each lens element or case repair for the objective. The L1 lens element for a Nikon CFI 60 series 50x oil infinity corrected 60mm focal tube length often needs repair. Cases for plan achromat objectives are similar to cases for achromats. We repair many 10x plan achromat objectives with oil inside.
If you send microscope objectives with lens elements that have been cracked or deformed greatly: If the objective is not repairable, it shall be sent back for shipping charges. If the objective is not wanted, MMI shall dispose of it for you- no shipping will be charged.
Before you send a planapochromatic,fluorite, strain free (pol), etc or special treatment objective to MMI, make sure that you have exhausted your chances of getting it repaired at the manufacturer. If you send the objective to them repair, be prepared to wait. If the manufacturer won't touch your objective- you have nothing to lose by sending it to MMI for consideration. When you send MMI a special treatment microscope objective, the repair charges are different.
Some microscope objectives have little or no seals in place; this allows lenses to move and fluids to infiltrate. You will find it cost effective to send the objective to MMI for repair. Dropping an objective may render it useless; get it repaired.
